Oakmere's Friday News

Date: 9th Sep 2022 @ 3:53pm

Good afternoon!

What a wonderful first week back we’ve all had! The children have settled in beautifully with the new routine and all have come back inspired to learn which is wonderful to see. After taking a couple of days to settle in, we have started our work.

In Literacy, we have started to explore vocabulary ahead of starting our new book next week. We have also started our class book which we will read a bit every day “the nothing to see here hotel” by Steven Butler. We have been assessing the children's reading, reading records will be going home next week. Please remember that the expectation is for your child to read at least 4 times a week. Reading is one of the most important skill your child can have, it not only enables them to access books but it enables them to access the whole curriculum too, from maths to science and everything in between so we hope you can help us in supporting your child to become a confident reader.

Maths has started with a review of past learning to assess how we all feel about maths. In PE, we have had our first dance session and we assessed our skills ahead of starting our Cricket unit. On this note, please remember that he children need their PE kits in on Tuesdays and Fridays.

In Computing, we explored digital devices and looked at the input, process and output using numbers to aid our understanding. For example if we started with the number 2 as the input and the process is multiplying by 2, then the output will be 4.

In PSHCE, we have started to talk about who keeps us safe - that could be a good discussion to have at home.

We hope everyone will have a lovely weekend and we will see you next week.

Take care, the Oakmere Team.
