Oakmere's Friday News

Date: 23rd Sep 2022 @ 3:37pm

Good afternoon,

This week was shorter due to Her Majesty the Queen’s funerals on Monday but it has felt very busy nonetheless! We are now in full swings and the children will definitely deserve a rest this weekend.

We have carried on exploring numbers on number lines, counting in 2s, 5s and 10s and our year 4s are working with numbers up to 10000! In English, we have carried on our story and started writing character descriptions. The children are showing courage when choosing new, adventurous vocabulary and we are proud of their efforts.

We had a little experiment with darkness this week where we realised that darkness is the absence of light and that light travels in straight lines. We also discussed that light is the fastest moving thing on Earth which explains why we see the lightening before we hear the thunder when there's a storm!

This week, we also celebrated the fact that some children have started to climb our Bronze Reading ladder! Well done! Remember that the expectation is 4 reads a week and please, make sure you record it in your child’s reading record otherwise, it can’t count towards the 4 reads a week.

Please a reminder about our PE days as there are still a number of children who do not have them in on Tuesdays and Fridays.

Have a lovely weekend,

The Oakmere Team.
