🌟 Oakmere Class Blog – Let Your Light Shine 🌟
After a lovely short week back following half term, it has been wonderful hearing all about the children’s adventures. They returned full of enthusiasm and ready to learn—already letting their individual lights shine in so many ways.
This week marked Interfaith Week, and schools across Winsford have been exploring different aspects of faith. In Oakmere, we focused on Hinduism and the traditions of Diwali. The children enjoyed creating their own Rangoli patterns—you may have spotted our colourful chalk designs brightening up the playground, a perfect reflection of the creativity shining through in our class.
Well done to the Year 4 who did so well in the multiplication test this week. we are so proud of the progress you have made.
🌱 Science
In Science, we are monitoring the growth of our seeds and exploring the different ways seeds are dispersed. After seeds are formed, plants spread them over a wider area—this process is called seed dispersal. Seeds can travel by wind, water, exploding pods, or by being carried or eaten by animals.
Did you know? Some seeds, like dandelions, have tiny parachute-like structures that help them float through the air—nature’s own way of helping them spread far and wide!
✍️ English
In English, we continue reading Stone Age Boy, focusing on the build-up to the hunting scene. The children will be collecting powerful verbs to describe the movement of both animals and hunters.
By studying the illustrations closely, they will imagine stepping back in time and becoming part of the hunt. Through drama and role play, they will explore different types of movement before using their ideas to plan and write an engaging story opening. We will also be working hard to ensure correct tense throughout their writing.
We had brilliant spelling results this week—well done to Reuben, Daneel, Thomas, Poppy, Carson, Max, Oscar, Oliver, Archie, Sebastian and Teddy for truly shining in their learning.
Congratulations also to our Platinum Readers, Poppy-May and Daneel—fantastic dedication! 📚✨
➕ Maths
In Maths, we are moving on to our final times table—the 12 times table. Please continue practising all times tables at home, building fluency and confidence. It is fantastic to see how persistence helps the children grow and shine a little brighter each day.
We are also continuing our work on fractions, focusing this week on tenths and decimals. The children will learn that tenths represent one part out of ten equal parts, and in decimals, tenths appear in the first place after the decimal point (for example, 0.3 means three tenths).
Well done to Thomas, Oscar and Izzy for their fantastic effort on TTRS this week!
🏃 PE
Next week in PE, the children will take part in football with the sports coach and enjoy rounders with Mrs Kelly. They will continue developing their batting, catching and teamwork skills, learning the importance of observation and awareness during games. It’s wonderful to see their confidence growing as they support one another and shine as a team.
✝️ RE
In RE, we will explore Christian artwork to deepen our understanding of the Trinity, focusing on Trinity Redemption by James Keay-Bright.
We will reflect on key Christian teachings, including:
“Therefore, go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.” (Matthew 28:19)
The children will consider how these ideas are expressed through both words and art.
🎨 Art
In Art, we are starting an exciting new topic on animated drawings. The children will explore how to create simple moving images using paper puppets—bringing their ideas to life through creativity and imagination.
💭 PSHE
In PSHE, we are focusing on Fire Safety. We will discuss who keeps us safe, when and why to call 999, and what a hoax call is. Understanding responsibility and making safe choices is an important way for the children to look after themselves and others.
We will also complete our final My Happy Mind session—ask your child about how our brains work and how they can keep their minds healthy and positive.
🎉 Congratulations!
A huge well done to our raffle ticket winner for the second week in a row—Izzy! A lovely reminder that every child brings something special to our class and has their own unique way to shine.
Thank you, as always, for your continued support.
