Welcome back!
Happy New Year to all our families! We hope you had a wonderful Christmas break and enjoyed some special time together. The children have settled back into school brilliantly, and we’ve had a fantastic first week of learning in 2026.
This week in Maths, we began learning about subtraction as taking away with numbers up to 10. The children have been using practical resources to help them understand what happens when we take away from a group.
In our Science topic of Seasonal Change, we’ve focused on what happens in winter. We explored how humans and animals keep safe during the colder months. The children learned about hibernation, migration, and how we change our clothes and food choices to stay warm and healthy. They loved sharing their own ideas about winter and spotting signs of the season around us. The snow came just at the right time!
In DT, we continued our work on moving pictures by learning how to make a wheel mechanism. The children were fascinated to see how a simple wheel can create movement in a picture. They can’t wait to use this skill in their own designs later in the term!
Our new PE unit is Dance, with a focus on the Seasons. This week, the children began exploring movements that represent the seasons. They worked in pairs and small groups to create actions. It was wonderful to see their creativity and teamwork.
Thank you for all your support at home. We’re looking forward to another exciting week of learning.
Have a lovely weekend!
