We have now had 4 amazing weeks in Year One. I can't believe that it is October already, time is going far too fast.

Here is a summary of our learning this week.

Maths - we continued with comparing numbers this week. We have a really good understanding of less, fewer, more, greater and equal. We even started to use the mathematical symbols < > =. Very impressive for this point in year one.

English - this week we have all planned and started to write our own stories based on Lost and Found by Oliver Jeffers. I was so proud of the story writing that they did yesterday. Lots of raffle tickets were awarded for their excellent ideas and accurate sentences.

Phonics - this week has been assessment week as well as continuing our learning by looking at plurals using s or es and our first experience of split vowel digraphs with the a_e grapheme. Next week we will be continuing our work on split vowel digraphs. These are always quite tricky and will need lots of practise. Please do have a look at the phonics section on our class page for more information about phonics in Year 1. http://www.overstjohns.cheshire.sch.uk/page/phonics/13760

Art - this week we made spirals with different drawing materials. We looked at how art can help us to express how we are feeling.

Science - we started our lesson by making sure we could remember what we had learnt so far about materials. I am pleased to say that they had confidently remembered the names of lots of different materials. This week we made sure that we could identify the difference between an object and the material that it is made from.

Our other lessons this week have been RE, music, PSHCE, geography, PE, handwriting, guided reading and number work.

Enjoy your weekend.
