Sandymere's Class Blog 12.9.25
Date: 12th Sep 2025 @ 11:44am
We've had a fantastic week in Sandymere. Here are some of the things we have been leanring about.
🖍️ English – Drawing Club
We’ve launched our Drawing Club sessions using the story Are the Dinosaurs Dead, Dad? by Julie Middleton. The children explored the characters and setting and used their imaginations to wonder what the T-Rex might be protecting when he chased Dad and Dave away!
🔢 Maths – Counting and Grouping
In maths, we’ve been grouping objects and counting amounts up to 10. We’ve focused on understanding that the last number we say when counting tells us how many are in the group.
🧸 History – Toys
Monday marked our very first history lesson! This term, we are learning about the history of toys. We discussed what "history" means and explored the difference between events within living memory (the last 100 years) and beyond living memory (more than 100 years ago). We discovered that the first teddy bear was made over 100 years ago - placing it beyond living memory!
📚 Guided Reading
Our Guided Reading sessions have begun. The book we’ve been reading in class will be coming home with your child on Monday. They’ll also bring home a second book that supports their phonics learning and is matched to a level they can read with growing independence.
🎶 Rhyme of the Week
This week’s rhyme has been Ten in the Bed, which we’ve enjoyed singing together. You can find it here Ten in the bed - BBC Teach
🦎 Animal Encounter Workshop
We ended the week with an exciting animal encounter workshop! The children had a brilliant time meeting and learning about different animals. Take a look at the photos below to see the fun we had.
Wishing you all a lovely weekend,
Team Sandymere.
