Sandymere's Class Blog 14.11.25

Date: 14th Nov 2025 @ 11:50am

What a lot of rain we’ve had this week! Our song choice, “Rain, Rain, Go Away”, matched the weather perfectly—although sadly, it didn’t make the rain stop today. It poured all day long!  It's raining, it's pouring - BBC Teach

Our main focus this week has been Remembrance Day. We explored:

  • When it is and why we observe it
  • The symbols used, such as poppies
  • What happens on Remembrance Day

We then looked at how Winsford remembers. We discovered that there are several memorials and cenotaphs in the area and people place poppy wreaths around them to show respect.

We learned was about James Clarke, a soldier in World War I who was awarded the Victoria Cross for his bravery. The most amazing part? James Clarke once attended our school! There is also a road named after him in Winsford which shows how important he is to the town.

On Remembrance Day, we held a two-minute silence, which was observed very respectfully by everyone.

The weather looks like it’s turning colder, so if you are sending in hats, gloves, or scarves for your child to wear, please make sure they are clearly labelled with their name. This helps us keep track of belongings and ensures nothing gets lost.

We hope you all have a lovely weekend! Stay warm and dry after all this rain, and we look forward to seeing you back in class next week for more exciting learning.
