We’ve had a fantastic week in Sandymere, packed with exciting learning and lots of smiles!

🔷 Maths – Exploring 2D Shapes
This week, we’ve been naming and sorting 2D shapes including squares, rectangles, circles, and triangles. The children have enjoyed hands-on activities to help them recognise and describe these shapes in everyday objects.

✏️ English – Drawing Club: The Hundred Decker Bus
Our Drawing Club story has taken us on a wild ride aboard The Hundred Decker Bus! The children designed imaginative new layers for the bus and used their ideas to inspire their writing. We’ve been focusing on using capital letters, full stops, finger spaces, and sounding out spellings carefully. Their creativity and effort have been brilliant!

🏰 History – Toys Through Time
We’ve been exploring how toys have changed over time, from wooden building blocks to colourful plastic Lego. The children are learning to use vocabulary like ‘beyond living memory’, ‘within living memory’, ‘continuity’, and ‘change’ to describe what they’ve discovered.

🤸‍♀️ PE – Gymnastics Fun
In PE, we’ve been practising gymnastics using apparatus safely. The full climbing frame in the hall was a big hit and brought lots of excitement and confidence-building moments!

🔤 Phonics – Split Vowel Digraphs
You may have noticed from the Mini Missions your child has brought home that we’ve started learning about split vowel digraphs – a-e, e-e, i-e, o-e, u-e. These are tricky graphemes, so we’ll be practising them lots in school. Any extra support at home would be fantastic!

🎵 Song of the Week – “Five Little Men in a Flying Saucer”
This catchy tune has been a favourite in class and helped us with counting and rhythm. Ask your child to sing it for you – they’ll love showing off! Five little men in a flying saucer - BBC Teach

🧥 Cardigans and Jumpers – Please Name Them!
Please make sure your child’s clothing is clearly named. We can only return lost items if they have a name label. Thank you for helping us keep everything organised!

📅 Reminder – Half Term Break
School will finish for half term next Thursday.

Thank you for your continued support. We’re so proud of all the children’s hard work and enthusiasm!

Warm wishes,

Team Sandymere.
