Sandymere's Class Blog 18.10.24

Date: 18th Oct 2024 @ 3:36pm

For the last two weeks we have taken some time in class to think about Black History Month.

To start of our thinking about this, we watched an episode from Disney Junior’s Ariel. All the mermaids sound different and look different. We then read a book called We are all Different. We found out that there are so many things that are different about people. We agreed that this is how it should be as no one is exactly the same. Everyone is different and everyone is welcome.

We then found out about a famous footballer called Laurie Cunningham. Laurie Cunningham (1956 - 1989), one of the very first black footballers to play for England. Laurie began his career at Leyton Orient in London and went on to play for West Bromwich Albion, Real Madrid and Manchester United. Laurie was a winger and his play was characterised by great speed and skill.            KS1 Black British History: Laurie Cunningham - BBC Teach

We then linked all this together with our No Outsiders message – There are No Outsiders in our school, everyone is welcome.
