Sandymere's Class Blog 19.9.25

Date: 19th Sep 2025 @ 9:48am

Hello Sandymere families!

We’ve had a fantastic week full of learning, creativity, and curiosity. Here’s a little peek into what we’ve been up to:

📚 English – Drawing Club: The Giant Jam Sandwich

This week in Drawing Club, we’ve been exploring the wonderfully sticky story The Giant Jam Sandwich by John Vernon Lord. The children have loved diving into the imaginative world of the village of Itching Down and thinking about how they would solve a wasp invasion! We’ve been drawing, writing, and sharing ideas inspired by the story.

🔢 Maths – Counting and Number Work

In Maths, we’ve been practising counting forwards within 10, finding one more than a given number, and reading and writing numbers in both numerals and words. You can support your child at home by spotting numbers around the house or while out and about – on doors, clocks, or packaging.

🔬 Science – Materials

We had our very first science lesson this week, and we’re learning all about materials. We’ve been asking: What is the object? What material is it made from? Can your child explore this further at home? Ask them to name an object and tell you what they think it’s made from – wood, plastic, metal, fabric, or something else?

🎨 Art – Spirals

In Art, we’ve been getting creative with spirals! The children have used different drawing materials and colourful stickers to make their own spiral designs. It’s been a joyful and expressive activity that’s helped us explore patterns and shapes.

🕊️ RE – What Is Special to Us?

In RE, we’ve started thinking about what is special to us. The children have shared some lovely thoughts about people, places and things that matter most to them. It’s been a beautiful way to learn more about each other and celebrate our uniqueness.

🌈 Our School Values – Ready, Respectful, Safe

We continue to work on what it means to be ready, respectful, and safe. These values are at the heart of everything we do and the children are doing a brilliant job learning why they are so important.

Thank you for your continued support – we’re so proud of how well the children are settling into Year 1!

🎶 Rhyme of the Week – One Finger, One Thumb, Keep Moving

We’ve been singing and moving along to One Finger, One Thumb, Keep Moving. It’s been a fun way to get active and practise following instructions while enjoying music together. One finger, one thumb, keep moving - BBC Teach

📖 Reading Reminder

Please remember to send reading folders in every Monday so that books can be changed. They are only changed on Mondays, so it’s really important that your child has their folder and books with them.

Have a lovely weekend!
