Sandymere's Class Blog 26.9.25
Date: 26th Sep 2025 @ 3:35pm
We’ve had a fantastic week in Year 1, full of creativity, learning, and exploration. Here’s a little peek into what we’ve been up to:
âī¸ English – Drawing Club
This week in Drawing Club, we explored the brilliant book Mixed by Arree Chung. The children loved discussing the story’s themes of friendship and diversity and created some wonderful drawings inspired by the colourful characters! Our writing focus was letter formation, everyone has worked really hard to improve this across the week.
đĸ Maths – Counting Backwards and One Less
In Maths, we’ve been practising counting backwards and finding one less than a given number. The children have been using number lines, songs and games to help build their confidence. Why not try counting backwards from 10 at home?
đ¨ Art – Outdoor Spirals
Our Art lesson took us outside this week! Using chalk, the children created beautiful spiral patterns on the playground. It was a great way to explore shapes and movement while enjoying the fresh air.
đšī¸ History – Nintendo Through Time
In History, we looked at how the Nintendo games console has changed over time. The children were fascinated to learn that it was invented within living memory and enjoyed comparing the old and new designs.
đĻī¸ Science – Seasons and Weather
We have been learning about how the weather changes with the seasons and how this affects the clothes we wear. The children sorted clothing items and talked about what they would wear in summer, autumn, winter and spring.
đļ Rhyme of the Week – Wind the Bobbin Up
Our rhyme of the week is Wind the Bobbin Up. The children have loved singing and acting out the movements. It’s a great one to practise at home too! Wind the bobbin up - BBC Teach
đ Reading Reminder
Please remember to send reading folders in every Monday so that books can be changed. They are only changed on Mondays, so it’s really important that your child has their folder and books with them.
Thank you for your continued support. We’re so proud of how enthusiastic and curious the children have been this week!
Have a lovely weekend,
Team Sandymere.
