Sandymere’s Class Blog 29.6.26

What a very hot week it has been! We are incredibly proud of the children for their resilience, positivity, and enthusiasm despite the high temperatures. To help us stay comfortable, we slowed the pace of our learning and included lots of fun ways to keep cool. From dipping our feet in water while we worked to enjoying a refreshing cool-down with water squirters, the children approached everything with smiles and great attitudes.

🏃‍♀️ Sports Day Success

Sports Day was a real highlight of the week! Every child took part with enthusiasm, cheering on their friends and doing their very best. It was wonderful to see such teamwork, encouragement, and determination on display. A fantastic day enjoyed by all!

✨ Let Your Light Shine

This week, we reflected on our school vision: “Let your light shine.” We talked about how each of us has a special, God-given light and how important it is not to hide it. The children showed this beautifully through their kindness, perseverance, and willingness to support each other—especially during such a warm and busy week.

🌳 Science Learning – Trees

In science, we have been learning about deciduous and evergreen trees. The children have explored:

  • The differences between deciduous and evergreen trees
  • The parts of a tree
  • How to identify different types of trees

We are very excited to put our learning into practice on our upcoming visit to Delamere Forest, where we will be identifying trees in the real world and spotting whether they are deciduous or evergreen.

☀️ Staying Safe in the Sun

With the hot weather, we also focused on sun safety. The children learned how to stay safe in the summer by remembering:

  • Hats to protect their heads
  • Water to stay hydrated
  • Suncream to protect their skin
  • Shade to stay cool

They showed great understanding of how to take responsibility for their health in warm weather.

🌊 Big Blue Oceans Day

We took part in Big Blue Oceans Day, thinking carefully about the impact of plastic in our oceans. The children were shocked to learn how harmful plastic pollution can be for sea life and discussed simple ways we can all help, such as reducing plastic use and recycling.

To bring their learning to life, the children created beautiful sea creature collages, reflecting on the importance of protecting our oceans. Their creativity and thoughtful messages were fantastic to see.

It has been a busy, warm, and rewarding week. We are so proud of how the children have shown care, resilience, and their shining lights in everything they have done. 🌟
