What a fantastic week of learning we’ve had in Sandymere!
π English – Retelling Lost and Found
This week we have been busy retelling the story Lost and Found. The children have worked hard to sequence the events, use story language and describe the characters’ feelings. Their oral retellings have been brilliant, and this will help us enormously when we write our own stories next week. W
π’ Maths – Subtraction Within 10
In Maths, we continued learning about subtraction within 10.
This week we used part–whole models and number lines to help us solve subtraction number sentences. The children are becoming much more confident at spotting which number is the whole and which numbers are the parts.
Next week, we will be moving on to the place value of numbers to 20.
πΊοΈ Geography – Mapping Our School
In Geography, we created simple maps to show where different things are in our school building. The children worked carefully to include a key, using symbols and colours to represent important areas. We were very impressed with how much detail they added and how confidently they could talk about their maps.
πΎ Science – Comparing Animals
Our Science lesson focused on comparing animals by looking closely at their structures and body parts. We learnt that scientists sort animals in this way to help identify what type of animal they are and which animal group they belong to. The children loved exploring the differences between mammals, birds, reptiles, amphibians and fish.
π¨ DT – Moving Pictures
Today, we completed our final piece in Design and Technology. We are so impressed with everyone’s amazing moving pictures!
The children assembled sliders, wheels and levers completely independently and created fantastic designs to go with them. What a wonderful way to end our DT unit.
π Reading – Thank You for Your Support
A huge thank you to everyone who is reading at home—this makes an enormous difference to the children’s confidence, fluency and enjoyment of books.
Well done to the children who received reading certificates so far this term—we are incredibly proud of your dedication and progress! Keep up the wonderful reading.
Have a lovely weekend! π
