We've had a fantastic week in Year 1, full of learning, creativity and curiosity. Here's a little peek into what we've been up to:

🧮 Maths

This week, we've been comparing numbers to 10 using important vocabulary and symbols like greater than (>), less than , fewer, (<) same, and equal to (=). The children have enjoyed using number cards and objects to explore these concepts in fun and practical ways.

✏️ English – Drawing Club

Our story this week was The Diddle That Dummed by Kes Gray. It sparked lots of imagination and giggles! We've been focusing on spelling words using the sounds we've learned so far. The children are becoming confident writers and are proud of their progress.

🔬 Science

We’ve been sorting materials and asking the big question: Can they be recycled? The children loved exploring different items and thinking about how we can help the planet by recycling.

🔡 Phonics

Everyone is doing brilliantly in phonics lessons! This week, we started learning about the split vowel digraph a-e, like in the words gate and late. Keep practising those sounds at home!

💻 Computing

We explored what technology means and sorted objects into “technology” and “not technology.” The children were great at spotting everyday tech around them!

🎶 Rhyme of the Week

Our song this week has been “Down in the Jungle” – it’s been a big hit! You can listen to it here: BBC School Radio – Down in the Jungle

📚 Reading

Well done to everyone who is reading at home! Every Monday, children get a raffle ticket for each time an adult has commented on their online reading log.
📌 Please remember: Reading folders must be brought in every Monday so books can be changed. They are only changed on Mondays, so it’s really important your child has their folder and books with them.

Thank you for your continued support. We’re so proud of all the children and the amazing learning they’re doing every day!
