Welcome back to a new half term! We’ve had a very busy first week and the children have been full of enthusiasm for their learning.
Our mini missions this week have all had a Bonfire Night theme. The children took their Bonfire Night crowns home on Wednesday, and the rest of their mini mission work will come home on Monday in their reading folders. Please take a few minutes to look through this work with your child—it’s a great way to see how they are getting on in school. The work does not need to stay in their reading folder once you’ve looked at it.
In English, we discovered that all of our Drawing Club work has been feeding a giant story machine owned by Professor Klunk (PK for short). PK has invited us to join him on his curious quests and help teach his friends how to write. We’ve accepted the challenge and will be joining PK and his friends—Noodle, Titch, and Brain—on their exciting adventures!
In Maths, we have started a new topic: Addition and Subtraction. So far, we’ve been exploring how a whole amount can be split into two parts. We are starting with numbers up to 10 and will move on to numbers up to 20 once we are confident with the smaller numbers.
We have also been thinking about the British Value of Respect. The children created beautiful Respect Rainbows using words we collected as a class. They said respect means: being kind, making good choices, listening, caring for others, showing love, and being helpful.
Finally, we’ve started learning our songs ready for the school Carol Service—so apologies if talk of Christmas has already begun! It looks like this half term is going to be full of excitement.
Don’t forget: Please send reading folders on Monday so that books can be changed.
Thank you for your continued support,
Team Sandymere
