🌟 Sandymere Class Weekly Blog 🌟 

We’ve had another brilliant week of learning in Year 1! 

📚 English 

This week, the children have been busy writing their own stories inspired by Lost and Found. They planned their ideas, thought carefully about their characters, and worked hard to write sentences using capital letters, finger spaces and full stops. We are so proud of their creativity! 

🔢 Maths 

We have begun our new topic: Place Value within 20. 
The children have been reading, writing and counting numbers to 20, and exploring how many tens and ones make each number. We ended the week by finding one more and one less, using number lines, practical equipment and lots of mathematical talk. 

🌦️ Science 

In Science, we continued learning about seasonal change. This week, we focused on how a robin’s behaviour changes across the seasons, understanding how animals adapt and survive throughout the year. 

⚽ PE 

During PE, we have been developing our skills of dribbling and controlling a ball with our feet. The children showed great concentration and teamwork as they practised keeping the ball close and changing direction. 

🎨 Computing 

In computing, we explored digital painting using Paintz.app. The children created amazing animals using the freehand and shape tools. Their imagination and growing confidence with digital tools were fantastic to see! 

🗺️ Geography 

In Geography, we completed a survey of the features in our school playground and field, using the maps we created of our school grounds. The children enjoyed exploring, observing and recording their views about what they found. 

📅 Looking Ahead 

We are looking forward to seeing you at Parent Consultations next week, and to giving you the opportunity to look through the amazing work your child has produced so far this year.

Please remember to read at least four times a week and record this on Learning with Parents. 
A huge well done to the children who received a Reading the Rainbow certificate in collective worship this week!
