Sandymere's Learning Update 23.9.16

Date: 23rd Sep 2016 @ 9:59am

This week we have begun a more formal timetable in Year 1 and the children are responding terrifically.  They are super at finding their tables, getting out their own materials and starting to get to work on their own. Well done children.

Thank you to all the parents and children for sending/bringing their toys to school on Monday.  We had lots of fun talking about them, drawing them, painting them and even writing about them using full sentences.  The children’s paintings will soon be up on display in the classroom complete with their sentence work.

Continuing the toy theme the children have looked at some toys from the past.  They enjoyed handling spinning tops, the tumbling man and flick books to name but a few.  We also compared the similarities and differences between old and new toys.  The children were excited to hear about an upcoming trip to look at some more old toys in a museum.  Details to follow!

On Tuesday we discovered a pile of toys on our classroom floor and were wondering if they were lost! So we created FOUND posters describing they toys using lots of interesting adjectives in our English lesson.  The posters will soon be in the classroom windows.  We have also been role playing with our toys and creating freeze frames!

In maths we have been continuing counting on and back to twenty and started counting beyond twenty.  We have been using language less than and more than to describe the placement of numbers on a number line.

Science continued the topic of materials and their properties and the children had fun sorting different objects by their materials.

Another big focus on handwriting this week with a particular look at the cursive letter o.  Please see homework for how we are writing these letters and help your child to practise at home.  Try this link for further guidance.  http://www.teachhandwriting.co.uk/continuous-cursive-letters-beginners.html

Another busy week!

See you on Monday
