Sportshall Athletics

A team of 9 boys and 9 girls walked to Winsford Academy on a lovely, but chilly, Friday afternoon full of excitement about the Athletics tournament between the Winsford schools. We were met by some of the academy's sports leaders and they settled us into the sports hall to wait for the start of the event.
The field events were completed first and we had children all over the sportshall competing in various events including, the triple jump, a standing long jump, a vertical jump, chest passes, javelin throwing and lastly the dreaded speed bounce! As I went around the hall watching, I was so impressed with our children. They cheered each other on and were polite and friendly to the other athletes even though they were also trying their hardest to do their best in each activity!
After a very short rest we progressed to the 'track 'events. All the children were lined up to watch each race and the atmosphere was electric. Again, all the St. John's team worked really hard to achieve their best times and a special mention must go to Sophie, who tripped during her event, but still got up and completed the race with cheers and applause from everyone in the hall ringing out in her ears!
The tournment ran overtime and it was a bit of a rush at the end but it has to be said......WE WON THE LAST RELAY with Max W, Max H, Harry and Will running a superb race! It was just like watching the Great Britain team on a good day!
Well done everyone, you have every right to be extremely proud of yourselves.
