We have chrysalides!

Date: 12th May 2020 @ 6:45pm

Hello Oakmere!

Just a quick message from me to update you on the progress of our caterpillars...over the weekend 4 of the caterpillars formed their chrysalides (I learnt something today too - the plural of the word chrysalis is chrysalides!) So yesterday we very carefully transferred them over into their new habitat which is where they will stay after becoming butterflies, until we release them into the wild. One of the caterpillars has always been much smaller (so I'm assuming younger) than the rest, so this one has only just started forming his chrysalis and has stayed in the cup for now. Hopefully you can see what the chrysalides look like from the photo below. Oh and also one of the 4 fell off so it is now on the floor of the new habitat, close to the side so that it can hopefully still climb out ok when it becomes a butterfly.

Bye for now smiley
