🌟 Our Wonderful Week of Learning!

We have had another fantastic week filled with curiosity, creativity and hard work. The children should feel incredibly proud of everything they have achieved!

📐 Maths

This week in Maths, we continued our journey with percentages. The children impressed me with how confidently they worked out percentages of amounts even when the denominator wasn’t 100! We also explored how to find 25%, 50% and 75% of a number, using our knowledge of fractions to support our thinking. Great perseverance all round!

📚 English

We began our exciting new text: King Kong.
To kick things off, we:

  • Explored ambitious vocabulary
  • Looked closely at an atmospheric image, sharing what we noticed, wondered and inferred
  • Created a senses grid to imagine the sights and sounds of the city scene

The children engaged brilliantly with the story so far — lots of super predictions already!

🔬 Science

Our Science lesson took us on a hands-on exploration of material properties.
We tested different materials to see how:

  • hard
  • flexible
  • permeable
  • transparent
  • magnetic

they were. The class worked like real scientists — investigating, comparing, discussing and drawing conclusions.

🎨 Art

In Art, we learned about landscape artist Kittie Jones.
The children explored how she uses charcoal and pastels, experimenting with texture and shading before creating their own stunning pieces inspired by her work. I was blown away by their creativity!

British Values – Democracy

This week we focused on the British value of democracy.
We discussed what democracy means in the UK and how it links to school life — from voting for school councils to sharing ideas fairly. The children contributed thoughtful ideas and showed great understanding.

💻 Computing

In Computing, the children have been designing and building their own webpages about the Windrush. I have been incredibly impressed with the creativity, layout skills and careful choices they have made. They are becoming brilliant young web designers!

✏️ Spelling – The ‘ie’ Grapheme (ee sound)

This week’s focus is the ‘ie’ grapheme making an “ee” sound, as in siege and achieve.
The spelling list is attached to the blog.
🔍 Our next spelling check will be on Monday 16th March.
