🌟 Blakemere Class Weekly Blog 🌟

It has been another great week in Blakemere Class! I have been proud of the children as we continue to work hard on making respectful and positive choices in all that we do. Throughout the week, we have reflected on our school vision of "Let Your Light Shine Before Others" and how each of us has a unique light that can brighten the lives of those around us. Whether through kindness, perseverance, teamwork or sharing our ideas.

📝 English

This week, we continued exploring The Water Tower and focused on the characters of Spike and Bubba. We thought carefully about their personalities and used effective vocabulary to write detailed character descriptions.

Later in the week, we revised speech punctuation and explored how authors can reveal information about a character through the verbs they choose and the actions they describe. The text acted as a window into the lives of the characters, allowing us to understand their thoughts and motivations more deeply. We then used our mirrors to reflect on how our own actions and words can reveal things about us to others.

🔢 Maths

In Maths, we continued our learning about negative numbers. We practised adding and subtracting through zero and worked on finding the difference between positive and negative numbers.

Towards the end of the week, we applied our knowledge to a range of word problems. These proved quite challenging at first, but the children demonstrated perseverance and resilience. They weren't afraid to make mistakes, ask questions or try different methods. By supporting one another and refusing to give up, they truly let their lights shine through their determination and positive attitudes.

🦊 Science

In Science, we explored how animals have special features called adaptations that help them survive in their environments. We investigated the adaptations of the polar bear, sun bear, chameleon and Arctic fox, discussing how each feature helps the animal to thrive.

This learning provided a window into the wonders of the natural world and helped us appreciate the incredible diversity of creation. Using our mirrors, we reflected on how every living thing has unique characteristics, just as each of us has unique gifts and talents that make us special.

✝️ RE

In RE, we continued exploring our enquiry question:

"Can Science disprove what the Bible says about Creation?"

This week, we examined two versions of the Christian Creation Story and identified similarities and differences between them. I was incredibly impressed by the children's thoughtful ideas, mature discussions and respectful attitudes towards different viewpoints.

This learning gave us a window into Christian beliefs and traditions. It also encouraged us to use our mirrors to reflect on our own thoughts and questions whilst approaching the views of others with curiosity, openness and respect. The discussions highlighted how everyone can let their light shine by listening carefully and valuing the opinions of others.

Throughout the week, the children have continued to demonstrate our vision beautifully. Whether persevering through difficult maths problems, contributing thoughtful ideas in RE, supporting their friends or sharing their learning confidently, they have shown that every one of us has a unique light that can make our classroom a brighter place.
