🌟 Blakemere Class Weekly Blog 🌟

What a fantastic week we have had in Blakemere Class! It has been wonderful to see the children continuing to settle into our routines and expectations successfully. There have been lots of excellent contributions, discussions and enthusiastic engagement in lessons. It has been lovely to see so many children already letting their light shine through their learning, kindness and positive attitudes.

📝 English

This week, we began exploring our new class text, The Water Tower by Gary Crew. The children have been captivated by the mystery of the story and are already developing ideas for the alternative ending they will be writing later in the unit.

We explored ambitious vocabulary linked to the text, generated synonyms, made predictions and inferences, and created noun phrases based on an image from the story. Through this learning, we looked through a window into the mysterious world of the text and used our mirrors to reflect on our own ideas and interpretations. It has been wonderful to see the children confidently sharing their thoughts and letting their lights shine during class discussions.

🔢 Maths

In Maths, we have been exploring the place value of 6 and 7-digit numbers. The children have practised writing numbers in words, partitioning them in different ways, representing them using a variety of models and identifying the value of each digit.

The children then applied their learning to a range of reasoning and problem-solving questions. It has been fantastic to see them demonstrating resilience and perseverance when faced with challenges, helping one another and celebrating success together.

🦖 Science

This week we began our new topic of Evolution and Inheritance. We started by exploring key vocabulary and definitions to help us build a strong foundation for our learning.

Using our spirituality approach of Windows, Mirrors and Doors, we looked through a window into the wider world of science, where we have began to discover new concepts and ideas. We used our mirrors to reflect on our own thoughts and questions about evolution, preparing us to step through the door into deeper learning over the coming weeks.

🏛️ History

In History, we explored a range of significant events from throughout history and created our own British and World Timeline. The children enjoyed identifying where key events fit in history and making connections between different time periods.

🎨 Art

In Art, we began our new project exploring how 2D images can be transformed into 3D sculptures. This week, we studied the work of Lubaina Himid, an artist who creates life-sized figures on wooden structures. We used this informatio to create fact files about her.

🗳️ School Council Elections

This week, we also held our School Council elections. Children were invited to write and present their own speeches to the class, explaining why they would make a good representative.

Every child who put themselves forward did a fabulous job and should be incredibly proud of themselves for standing up and speaking in front of their peers. They certainly let their lights shine through their courage and confidence.

Congratulations to Lily E and Toby, who have been selected as our Year 5 and Year 6 School Council representatives for this year. We know they will do an excellent job representing the views of our class.

Throughout the week, the children have continued to embody our vision of "Let Your Light Shine Before Others." Whether sharing ideas in lessons, supporting friends, showing resilience when learning becomes challenging, or confidently presenting speeches, they have demonstrated what it means to shine brightly within our school community.
