🌟 Let Your Light Shine – A Wonderful Week in Blakemere 🌟

This week in Blakemere, we have truly lived out our school’s Christian vision: “Let your light shine before others” (Matthew 5:16). Through our hard work, curiosity, and kindness, the children have shone brightly in their learning across all subjects.

📚 English

In English, we began our exciting new non-fiction text, Can We Save the Tiger? This unit will lead us to write a hybrid report about an endangered animal. The children have approached this with great enthusiasm, shining their light as thoughtful learners.

We have been using our Windows, Mirrors and Doors approach:

  • As windows, we explored our world, looking at both the “WOWs”—the beauty and wonder of nature—and the “OWs”—the challenges faced by endangered animals.
  • As mirrors, we reflected deeply on our own thoughts, feelings, and beliefs, considering how we can make a difference and care for our world.

We have also explored new vocabulary linked to the text, including synonyms and antonyms, helping us to express our ideas clearly and confidently.

🔢 Maths

In Maths, the children have worked incredibly hard exploring both 2D and 3D shapes.

  • We identified whether shapes are regular or irregular
  • We described and classified shapes using their properties
  • We explored 3D shapes, carefully identifying faces, edges and vertices

The children have demonstrated resilience and determination, letting their light shine through excellent reasoning and problem-solving.

🔬 Science

In Science, we have begun our new topic of Evolution and Inheritance. The children have already shown fantastic curiosity, engaging with new scientific vocabulary and concepts. It has been wonderful to see them asking thoughtful questions and building their understanding—continuing to shine as inquisitive learners.

🎨 RE / WEP Interfaith Project

Over the past few weeks, we have taken part in the WEP Interfaith Project, learning about the Sikh Golden Temple. The children then created their own beautiful artwork using pencil, watercolour and pen for detail.

The finished pieces are truly impressive—each one reflects care, creativity, and respect for others’ beliefs, perfectly demonstrating how we can let our light shine through understanding and appreciation of different faiths.

🍎 DT – Food and Nutrition

In DT, we have started our new unit on Food and Nutrition, where we will be working towards making savoury muffins. This week, we explored what it means for food to be in season and investigated which foods grow at different times of the year.

🌟 Celebrations 🌟
