Weekly Learning Blog๐
We’ve had a busy and exciting week in class. Here’s a glimpse into what we’ve been exploring:
๐ English
This week, we delved deeper into our text King Kong.
- We explored the setting, using expanded noun phrases and carefully chosen vocabulary to build atmosphere and tension.
- We analysed the characters Ann and Carl, creating thoughtful roleโonโtheโwall diagrams to better understand their personalities, motivations and feelings.
- To finish the week, we planned a diary entry in role as Ann, ready to write next week—there were some amazing ideas already developing!
โ Maths
Our focus has been on finding percentages of amounts.
- We explored different strategies, including bar models, converting to decimals, and using known facts.
- The children discussed which methods were most efficient in different situations, showing great reasoning and independence.
๐ฌ Science
In Science, we investigated thermal insulators and conductors.
- Using ice cubes, we tested materials such as foil, bubble wrap and fabric to discover which would slow melting the most.
- The children made predictions, observed closely and patiently waited for the information to show which was the best insulator.
๐บ History
We began exploring the salt industries in Winsford and Nantwich, comparing their historical development and importance.
This was an introduction to the topic, and we will be digging deeper as the unit continues.
๐ค PSHCE
This week we looked at KiVa, our antiโbullying programme.
- We discussed the different roles people might take on within a group and the impact each role has.
- The children took part in the empty chair scenario, arranging chairs to represent where different group members might sit.
This activity gave us a powerful insight into the experience of someone being bullied and how an imbalance of power can feel.
