🌟 Blakemere Class Weekly Blog 🌟

What a great week we have had in Blakemere Class! This week, we have been working particularly hard on developing our perseverance and resilience, especially when faced with challenging tasks. We have reminded ourselves that mistakes help us to learn and grow, and it has been wonderful to see so many children letting their light shine through determination, effort and a positive attitude.

📝 English

This week, we continued to explore our class text, The Water Tower. We thought carefully about Bubba's thoughts, words and feelings at different points in the story and used evidence from the text to support our ideas. The mysterious nature of the story provided a window into Bubba's experiences, while our discussions encouraged us to use our mirrors to reflect on how we might have felt in the same situation.

We also developed our proofreading skills, identifying and correcting spelling and punctuation errors. These are skills we will continue to apply in future writing. Towards the end of the week, we planned and wrote a diary entry in role as Bubba following his trip to the Water Tower. The children produced some thoughtful and imaginative pieces of writing.

🔢 Maths

In Maths, we continued exploring Roman numerals, building and creating numbers and dates. Why not ask your child about the Roman numeral tricksters and see if they can explain them to you?Later in the week, we moved on to estimating where 6 and 7-digit numbers belong on a number line before beginning our learning about negative numbers. 

Science

In Science, we explored adaptations and how animals have adapted to their environments in order to survive. This learning gave us a window into the wider world and helped us appreciate the amazing ways living things have changed to meet the challenges of their habitats.Using our mirrors, we reflected on how every animal has unique features that help it thrive. This linked beautifully to our vision of "Let Your Light Shine Before Others", reminding us that we all have our own unique gifts and strengths that make us special.

🚢 History

In History, we completed our timeline of key events relating to the Titanic, from its launch to its tragic sinking. The children have shown a real enthusiasm for this topic and have asked some excellent questions. Their curiosity has opened a door to further historical enquiry, and they are eager to continue learning more about the lives of those who travelled aboard the ship.

🏃 PE

In PE, we continued to develop our teamwork and problem-solving skills through a range of challenges. The children worked collaboratively, listened carefully to one another and demonstrated fantastic resilience when things did not go to plan first time. It was lovely to see them encouraging one another and helping others to let their lights shine.

Throughout the week, the children have continued to live out our vision of "Let Your Light Shine Before Others." Whether through showing resilience when tasks became challenging, supporting their friends, sharing their ideas confidently or reflecting thoughtfully on their learning, they have demonstrated how each one of us has a unique light that can make a positive difference to the world around us.
