🌟 Weekly Blog 🌟

As we creep ever closer to the end of term, taking a moment to stop and reflect on everything our class has achieved this year fills me with immense pride. The children have grown in confidence, resilience and independence, and it has been a joy to watch them let their lights shine in so many different ways throughout the year.

In English, we explored modal verbs and adverbs of possibility and certainty, considering how these can change the meaning of a sentence. The children enjoyed experimenting with language and discussing how a small change in vocabulary can alter how sure or uncertain a statement appears. We shall be applying these in to our writing next week.

In Maths, we continued our work on perimeter, finding the lengths of missing sides in rectangles, squares and more complex rectilinear shapes. The children demonstrated excellent perseverance when tackling increasingly challenging problems. It was wonderful to see them letting their light shine through their determination, reasoning skills and willingness to explain their methods to others.

In DT, we explored the importance of hygiene and food safety within the kitchen, considering potential hazards and ways to minimise risks. This provided a valuable door into real-life situations and encouraged us to think about how our actions can help keep ourselves and others safe. We then moved on to planning and designing our own savoury muffins, which we are very excited to make next week!

In Science, we continued learning about animal adaptations and how animals have evolved to suit their environments. The children selected an animal and wrote about the adaptations that help it survive. This learning gave us another window into the wonders of the natural world and helped us appreciate the incredible diversity within creation. It also provided an opportunity to use our mirrors to reflect on how living things depend on their environments and why it is important that we care for the world around us.

In Art, we recreated drawings of the salt crystal statues at Town Park using a range of mixed media. The children showed great creativity and attention to detail, experimenting with different materials and techniques to achieve their desired effects.

As we approach the end of another wonderful year together, it has been lovely to reflect on how much the children have achieved. Whether looking through windows to discover more about the world, using mirrors to reflect on their thoughts and actions, or stepping through doors to embrace new opportunities, they have truly embodied our vision of "Let Your Light Shine Before Others."
