What a busy and exciting week we have had in Year 2! The children have worked incredibly hard across all subjects and shown wonderful enthusiasm, curiosity and kindness. Throughout the week, they have truly lived out our school vision of “Let your light shine before others” (Matthew 5:16), celebrating their strengths, supporting one another and taking pride in their learning. Here is a snapshot of the fantastic learning that has taken place in Team Delamere.
In English, we have been exploring new vocabulary and using our knowledge organisers as we began our exciting new book, The Dragon Machine. The children made some fantastic predictions and are very excited to continue reading. A special well done to Reggie and Archie, who impressed us with their excellent predictions and received Headteacher Awards!
It has been a fantastic week in Maths, with lots of progress being made. We have used our 2 times tables to solve problems, explored odd and even numbers, and then moved on to using the 10 times tables. Great effort from everyone!
In History, we began learning about some local history – The Great Fire of Nantwich. We located the event on a timeline, studied a range of images and made predictions about what might have caused the fire. It was wonderful to see the children naturally making links to the Great Fire of London. After listening to the story, we recalled key facts and were very shocked to learn that the fire spread faster because pet bears were released, which scared people from throwing buckets of water!
In RE, we explored two stories from the Bible. First, we learned about The Feeding of the 5000. I played a little trick on Delamere by producing lots of bread and fish from my ‘empty’ bag to help us remember the story. While mine was just a trick, Christians believe Jesus performed a miracle, using two fish and five loaves to feed 5,000 people. We then explored the Parable of the Foolish Builder and had lots of fun recreating the story in Hatchmere’s sand tray/ We then thought about what things Christians believe they should build their lives on - kindness, compassion, love, friendship, forgiveness.
In PE, Bonnie and Coby were awarded PE Stars for their incredible javelin throwing – they were honestly so impressive!
For Geography, we focused on naming the five oceans. We used Google Earth to zoom in and discussed the oceans’ salt water, size, temperature, depth and location. We also used atlases to help us locate each ocean.
A big well done to our NumBots winners – Archie, Leighton and Myah for topping the leaderboard and to Robyn for completing her next level!
We hope you all have a wonderful long Bank Holiday weekend, and we look forward to more fun and learning when we return on Tuesday 5th May.
