A Fantastic First Week in Delamere Class!
What a wonderful start to Year Two we have had in Delamere Class! The children have impressed us with their hard work, excellent listening and, best of all, their smiles. It has been lovely to see everyone settling so confidently into their new classroom and beginning to build our class community.

This week, we adopted some very special Delamere Ducks to help reinforce our school rules. The children created beautiful duck pictures which now make up a gorgeous display in our classroom, reminding us every day to be Ready, Respectful and Safe.

On Thursday we listened to the story The Big Umbrella. Together, we thought about how our class is like the big friendly umbrella. Not only does it provide shelter, but there is also room for everyone underneath it. We talked about how we are all unique, but together we make one amazing team. It was wonderful to hear the children sharing ideas about kindness, inclusion and friendship as we reflected on how we can all let our light shine before others by welcoming and supporting one another.

In History, we began exploring the concept of chronology. The children started thinking like historians by using timelines to organise events from the past, considering what happened now, closer to now and further from now. We added the children's birth years to our timelines and then included when Mrs W was born! I tried not to take it too personally when a few children originally placed my birth nearly 200 years ago. I'm sure it was simply because chronology is such a tricky concept… although I may still need to pop to the shops for some new face cream!

We also launched our exciting History topic on the Three Queens by creating our own shiny crowns. They looked absolutely magnificent and I think they would be perfect attire for a trip to Asda this weekend!

In Science, we began our learning about Living Things and Their Habitats. The children sorted pictures into living and non-living groups and used their new scientific vocabulary to explain how they knew whether something was living or not.

A reminder that PE sessions take place on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Children are welcome to leave their PE kits in school for the half term to make life a little easier.

Reading books and folders will be coming home soon, so please keep an eye on the blog for further information. We will also be sending home Numbots login details shortly to support learning at home.

All in all, it has been an amazing start to the year. We are incredibly proud of the children for the enthusiasm, resilience and positivity they have shown this week. We cannot wait to watch our team grow stronger and stronger throughout the year ahead! 🌟

We hope that you have a wonderful weekend and look forward to more fun and learning next week.
