Delamere's Weekly Blog - 18.09.26

What a fantastic week we have had in Team Delamere! The children have approached all of their learning with enthusiasm and curiosity, and we have been so proud of the effort they have shown across the curriculum.

In English this week, we wrote descriptive sentences about what Rocket could see when she looked down at her bedroom floor, using some fantastic vocabulary choices to bring our ideas to life. At the end of the week, we imagined that we were Rocket making a model rocket and wrote a recount of the materials she used. We had some lovely discussions, shared ideas respectfully and worked hard to organise our writing using time-ordering words such as first, then, next and finally. It was wonderful to see the children growing in confidence as writers and letting their light shine through their creativity and perseverance.

In Maths, the children continued to grow in confidence when identifying the tens and ones in two-digit numbers. They have also begun to identify the value of each digit. For example, in the number 23, we know that the 2 represents 20 and the 3 represents 3. The children then applied their learning to a reasoning problem, using their knowledge of place value to explain how they knew the answers. We were very impressed by the mathematical thinking and explanations that were shared.

In History, we answered questions about the reigns of the three queens using our timelines. The children demonstrated some fantastic historical reasoning and questioning skills as they explored similarities and differences between different periods in history. A special shout-out goes to Teddy, who showed a super understanding of how to use a timeline and was able to explain his thinking clearly to others.

As part of our Art lessons, we have been learning about the artist Alice Fox, who is inspired by nature when creating her artwork. The children enjoyed exploring her work and discussing how nature can influence creativity. On Monday, we will be looking more closely at collections from nature and would love the children to bring in their own nature collections. Please ensure that items are dry where possible. If you are bringing leaves, please press them first by placing them between sheets of kitchen paper and under some heavy books.

In Music, we explored pitch by first listening to Duet for Two Cats. We then used hand movements to show how the pitch changed throughout the piece. The children listened carefully and enjoyed finding creative ways to represent the different sounds they heard.

 

Throughout the week, the children have continued to let their light shine before others through their determination, thoughtful contributions and willingness to support one another. We have seen many examples of children being Ready to learn, Respectful towards others' ideas and Safe in their choices both in and out of the classroom.
