Delamere's Weekly bog - 22.05.26

Date: 22nd May 2026 @ 3:53pm

We’ve had another busy and exciting week in Year 2, full of fantastic learning across all subjects. Here’s a snapshot of what we’ve been up to!

Maths
In Maths, we have begun our fractions unit. We explored equal and unequal groups and started to understand what a half is. We also learned the important vocabulary of numerator and denominator. The children enjoyed finding halves in both shapes and groups of objects, showing great teamwork and problem-solving skills.
English

In English, we have been focusing on question words and how to use question marks correctly. The children have worked hard to deepen their thinking by asking questions that gather more detail. They then used their imagination to write questions for Mrs Snowdon, based on the fun idea: What would you be doing if there were dragons in our school? Then we worked hard writing letters to Mrs Snowdon using a variety of sentence types, including statements, exclamations and questions.

Design Technology
We have started our textiles unit, and there has been great excitement as Mrs Snowdon has challenged us to create a set of owl puppets for a special puppet show for Hatchmere!
We began by exploring a range of hand and finger puppets, thinking about:
  • Who they were for
  • What they were made of
  • What made them effective
After half term, we will begin designing and making our own puppets—watch this space!

My Happy Mind
In My Happy Mind, we continued with Session 2, revisiting Team H.A.P and learning about neuroplasticity—how our brains can grow and change when we practise and try new things. We also thought carefully about how different parts of our brains work.
PE

In PE, we have been practising races for Sports Day with lots of energy and enthusiasm.
⭐ PE Stars of the Week: Myah and Max – well done!

It was so lovely to catch up this week at our last Parent Consultations -  we couldn't be prouder of the children and it was a pleasure to share their successes with you.

Well done to our Numbots stars this week, Leighton, Sophie and Archie!

Times Table Rock Stars
We were very excited to launch Times Table Rock Stars (TTRS) to Delamere class today! The children are looking forward to practising their multiplication facts and becoming rock star champions! The login details are exactly the same as Numbots and  a letter has come home today with further details. We cannot wait to see who becomes the biggest Times Table Rock Star! Rock on Delamere!

We hope you have a wonderful half term break and look forward to seeing you back in school on Tuesday 2nd June.
