What a brisk start to the year!
In Hatchmere this week we decided to ease back into school by taking things slowly and reminding ourselves of expectations.
The children have discussed the differences in Christmas holiday experiences. It was lovely to hear Hatchmere excited to listen to the way their friends had spent their Christmas break. We had some going to grandparents’ houses, some having a party for New Years eve, some having a movie night and some allowed to stay up late! We wrote about what our favourite thing was independently (please ask your child what the word independent means).
In Maths this week we have re-visited previous learning and looked at the relationship between 2D shapes and their 3D counterparts. The children have enjoyed showing off their number formation and making fantastic pictures from 2D stencils. Hatchmere are confident mathematicians, and they enjoy showing of their number skills. We had a Hatchmere Vs Mrs Teece quick quiz, with the children celebrating an easy win against their teacher! I have a feeling it won't be so easy next time..mwah ha ha ha!
The weather has made it difficult for us to spend lots of time outside, safely. However, we did manage a nice, fresh and crunchy walk around our outside area. We compared our footprints and were fascinated when we saw the footprints left by a bird. We have also fetched thick sheets of ice indoors to add to our water tray. We added some artic animals and made use of the opportunity to use focused topic-based vocabulary.
Well done to another Bronze Reading Star received today by yet another child in Hatchmere! Lots of reading done at home which is certainly showing in her confidence with reading and writing! Super work.
