Hatchmere's Class Blog 15.5.26

Firstly, I would like to thank all of the adults at home for a much healthier Hatchmere snack basket! You have obviously spoken to your child about healthier snack options as the discussions over the snack basket, just between the children themselves, have been gorgeous!! The children have been comparing snacks, talking about fruit and vegetables and how they can affect their bodies, their learning and discussing the importance of drinking water….there is our PSE lesson done for the week :0)
During our literacy sessions this week Hatchmere have been creating their own Dinosaur Fact file. We have used our non-fiction books and short clips to research information about dinosaurs and found that dinosaurs lived all over the world and there were lots of different types.
In Drawing Club we watched Not Now Bernard by David McKee. The children thought it was quite sad the Bernards parents were ignoring him and not spending time with him. They didn't even notice when a monster gobbled Bernard up. We got right to work creating our own Best Friend Monster to play with. I must say, some of the monster decisions were very impressive.
The Hatchmere mathematicians have been hard at work exploring the numbers up to 10. They have used many different methods to support ordination, partitioning and counting on. We have been investigating doubles within 5 and showing off knowledge of number; one more than, one less than, odd numbers and even numbers. We went to see our resident maths expert (Mrs Skelley) in Linmere who was astonished at their knowledge of number.
Our Outside Classroom is developing some amazing engineering skills as the children explored how they could create a system for the movement of water.
Hatchmere have let their light shine before others by encouraging one another to make healthy choices, showing kindness and empathy as they talked about feelings in stories like Not Now Bernard, and working together with enthusiasm and perseverance as confident learners in maths, literacy and outdoor exploration.
Have a lovely weekend.
