Hatchmere's Class Blog 16.10.26

We have had so much fun this week!
A big round of applause to those children receiving our very first Reading Awards. The children were celebrated in Collective Worship with the whole school! These children have read at least 4 times a week, every week, over 4 weeks (a minimum of 16 times, recorded on Learning with Parents) and they have reached England on our reading maps. You can tell by their faces how proud of themselves they are.
We had the opportunity to see a fire engine at school on Monday. We looked at all the different parts and how they may be used to help people. We related our own experiences to connect knowledge on other emergency response vehicles and their role in our community.
Hatchmere's Outside Classroom was turned into a pirate ship! We had a hammock so our tired pirates could have a rest, and we waved our Pirate flags whilst our friends walked the plank. The children have created some pirate traps, working together to problem solve and gather materials, they thoroughly enjoyed this task!
Our Drawing Club activity this week saw the children create their own treasure maps. They were full of gold bars, coins, a pesky pirate, treasure, and even a sandcastle. The children’s writing was supported by the use of their sound mats and their own fantastic sounding out (segmenting) of key words. Excellent work Hatchmere.
Road Safety was taken very seriously this week as Hatchmere showed how sensible they could be. We are always discussing personal safety in Hatchmere and the children certainly showed off their skills ‘on the road’. We talked about zebra crossings, traffic lights, being seen in the dark and looking and listening. As an added challenge, there was even traffic (bikes/scooters) but the children were alert and careful. I was very proud of them.
Some children were inspired by their learning of 'Creation' and took their artistic skills outside to create a beautiful picture based on their knowledge. Well done!
This week, Hatchmere children let their light shine before others by showing perseverance in earning their Reading Awards, teamwork as they worked together to build pirate traps and solve problems, and responsibility by demonstrating excellent road safety skills and caring for themselves and others.
