Well done to our super reading Hatchmerians who received another colour on their  Reading Rainbow! Would you believe we are up to Indigo already? 

On Monday we had a resident OSJ author and illustrator visit Hatchmere and read the class a story. We were so impressed! It made it all the more special that his little sister was proudly listening on the carpet. Thank you, Oliver! 

Drawing Club was a hit this week with the children writing what they thought some very funny looking animals were saying. They used their speech bubbles and practiced their sentences with some super expressive voices. We had so much fun with this task. 

As part of our literacy task this week we created a story map of the Bog Baby. We used sequencing language to keep the story on track and in the right order! 

Our budding mathematicians have been on fire this week! We have been exploring the key vocabulary of ‘double’ and ‘equal’. We have played a very popular doubles game with the children racing against a timer to win raffle tickets. We have also began independently counting objects more than 10. The children have noticed that they must be a little more careful and focused when counting larger numbers. They have been showing me that they can use the counting strategy of marking each one that’s been counted – what a great idea Hatchmere. 

Our Outside Classroom has been a hub of activity in this very gorgeous weather! The children have shown their understanding of habitats by creating a hot, cold and wet habitat and matching our small world animals to them. We have also been creating some Spring potions using flowers. Our scientists have cut, funnelled, measured and poured. We've got lotions, perfumes, sprayS…please do let us know if you would like a sample.
