Firstly, I would like to thank all of the adults at home for a much healthier Hatchmere snack basket! You have obviously spoken to your child about healthier snack options as the discussions over the snack basket, just between the children themselves, have been gorgeous!! The children have been comparing snacks, talking about fruit and vegetables and how they can affect their bodies, their learning and discussing the importance of drinking water….there is our PSE lesson done for the week :0)
Secondly, I would like to address an issue that has arisen in class discussions this week. As you are aware we have had a focus on Internet Safety. Some of our children have been talking about some characters that they have found/watched online (Huggy Wuggy, Kissy Missy and Mummy Long Legs). These characters seem, at first glance, as harmless toys, however, they can quickly turn into scary monsters who behave violently and ‘murderously’. I am sure I do not need to explain that accessing this content online is entirely inappropriate for young children and can negatively impact brain development. Much more in-depth information about the harm these types of characters can do to children can be found here: Huggy Wuggy Online Review
Next, during our literacy sessions this week Hatchmere have been creating their own Bear Factfile. We have used our non-fiction books to research information about bears and found that bears live all over the world and there’s lots of different types.
The Hatchmere mathematicians have been hard at work exploring the numbers up to 10. They have used many different methods to support ordination, partitioning and counting on. The children have also been playing subitising bingo and a ‘counting on’ game invented by one the children and played by all! Super work Hatchmere.
We have had a lovely treat this week with some children from Y6 coming to play with us! The children performed shows, built volcanoes and played bat and ball all with their Y6 friends. We had a fab time!
Have a lovely, sunshiny weekend.
