Hatchmere's Class Blog 22.11.24

Date: 22nd Nov 2024 @ 3:31pm

The word ‘unexpected’ can be used to sum up this week.

Firstly, our planned lessons took a sidestep due to the glorious snow and then we have had a new addition join the Hatchmere classroom.

It snowed! And Hatchmere made the most of it! We all wrapped up warm and went outside. The children explored the crunching of the snow beneath their feet as they created their own footprints in the snow. Then, the inevitable happened. Snowballs were quickly cobbled together and thrown at poor Miss Dyson (a willing victim). Lots of laughs and giggles were had. Of course, Hatchmere also created their own snowman in the outside classroom, he was very cute! When it was time to go back inside and defrost, the children thought it would be a good idea to pack the wheelbarrow and some buckets full of snow and take it inside. We used this to support our learning about the animals that live in the arctic. I am sure you will agree, we certainly squeezed out lots of learning opportunities from our ‘wonderful’ weather.

Later in the week as the snow melted and turned to ice, the children explored and discussed changes of matter. Why was the ice melting? What would have to happen for it to turn back into ice? Why is ice really hard? Why has this ice melted but the over there (in the shade) hasn’t? Lots of great questions were asked and observations made. Excellent work Hatchmere.

The children were inspired to create a friendly and kind monster in Drawing Club this week. They were horrified that everyone, including the purple monster, was mean to Bernard! Our Monsters wanted to be our friends and join us at the park, run, roller skate and even do jigsaws with us. You can see the children’s Drawing Club pictures and writing below.

*Breaking News* Hatchmere welcomed a new addition to the classroom today. Herbie Hatchmere appeared this morning by magic, sitting on his elf chair, A letter he sent explains that he is our class Book Elf. Each day he will bring one of his favourite books for our class leader to open. This book will then be read to the class. How exciting!
