We have had a gorgeous week! 

In Maths the children have made sure we had the right number of fingers for the number we were counting. We have such good counters that Wibbly Wobbly Wand needed our advice on what strategies to use when counting a small amount. The children got right to work giving him some tips: Count slowly, count one at a time and stop when you have counted the last object…that is our stopping number! I have a feeling Wibbly Wobbly Wand will need our help again before long!  

Our construction area has been quite popular this week. The children made a beautiful castle that they proudly showed off to their friends. A small group of Hatchmerians visited our school library to collect some books about different kinds of structures to gain even more ideas of how they could improve their castle or ideas on what to build next. 

Phonics has seen the children reviewing their previously taught sounds and then introducing the sounds ‘i’ and ‘n’. I have been so impressed with the children’s segmenting skills (sounding out). They have been showing me that they can hear the sounds in some CVC words: sat, pat, tan, sit.  

During our R.E session the children were discussing how Christians talk to God. We explored what we would say to God if we could talk to Him. We used our class phones to connect Him and share of thoughts and ideas. 

Our budding artists were able to draw a creature that the Gruffalo might meet in the forest, only there was one rule: the creature had to be a 'real' creature. These discussions help the children to use their own experience and knowledge of woodlands, creatures and to discern between fact and fiction. Fantastic Hatchmere. 

Cricket has been a huge success! Hatchmere are always excited for their next lessons. Harry, their coach, has given lots of positive comments about listening, effort and following instructions. I think we may have some professional athletes in our midst. 

This week, Hatchmere have let their light shine before others by kindly helping Wibbly Wobbly Wand with his counting, proudly sharing their castle-building ideas and creations with friends, and showing excellent listening, effort and teamwork during their cricket lessons
