Happy Chinese New Year of the horse!
We immersed ourselves in the vibrant celebrations of Chinese New Year. The children loved creating their own colourful dragon masks and taking part in lively dragon and lion dances around the classroom.
Our celebrations finished with a special Chinese takeaway tasting session! The children were so brave and adventurous—everyone tried something new from the selection of prawn crackers, miso soup, green tea, seaweed, spring rolls and wontons. We were very proud of their enthusiasm and I’m thinking next time it might be best to order a takeaway! There was nothing left for Miss Dyson and I to enjoy after school….boo hoo.
During our spring hunt around the school grounds, we spotted lots of beautiful early signs of the new season. Inspired by what we saw, the children have planted their own bean seeds and begun exploring the plant life cycle. We can’t wait to see how our beans grow over the next few weeks. Next week we will take our new found planting skills and choose their own plants to grow.
In maths, we focused on the number 6. The children explored its composition, practised ordering numbers, and deepened their understanding of the “one more, one less” concept through hands‑on activities and games. We also noticed patterns in our school day, in our wake and shake dances and songs! We love patterns.
Enjoy your weekend.
