Hatchmere's Class Blog 5.6.26

Date: 5th Jun 2026 @ 4:55pm

The children were excited to see other after a week’s break and it was lovely for us all to be back together again.

Well done to our very first Platinum Reading Award winner! This means they have read at least 4 times a week for 33 weeks....at least 132 instances of reading since their September start! WOW.

Hatchmere are so thankful to our wonderful PTA who have kindly donated a Tonie Box and some Tonies for us to enjoy in the classroom. The children are thoroughly enjoying some quiet listening time in our reading area, using the matching books to read along.

Our Mathematicians have mastered the rekenreks! Hatchmere can now organise their own rekenreks so that they are ready to use during their learning. We used our ‘fast five’ counting to support the moving of the beads quickly without have to count each one along. We have even used them to support our number bond knowledge. The children surprised themselves at how quickly they were able to use their previously taught skills in new learning. Well done Hatchmere!

We have read Grandads Island by Benji Davies and the children were inspired to think about how they could create a special memory with someone close to them. Through this story the children were gently introduced to loss, bereavement, special memories and celebrating life.

Our focus for interfaith week has been ‘light’. We explored different ways in which light can be used throughout religion and the way in which we conduct ourselves. We explored the idea that while a window looks beautiful on its own, it truly "wakes up" and tells a story when the light shines through it. Hatchmere have been busy creating their own "Stained Glass" masterpieces using acetate, colourful tissue paper, and a lot of creativity.

Hatchmere have truly let their light shine before others by showing perseverance and commitment through their reading, kindness and respect as they listened quietly and shared special stories and memories together, and confidence and collaboration as they supported one another in maths and creative learning.
