Autumn has arrived!

We have had a super week exploring the meaning of Autumn and what autumnal signs we can observe in our natural environment. The children were introduced to the marvelous book ‘Leaf Man’ by Lois Ehlert and were inspired to make their own Leaf Man. They look beautiful, as you can see in the pictures below.

The Gingerbread Man saga continues in Hatchmere as the children were challenged to help by constructing a bridge so the The Gingerbread Man could escape the cunning fox. The children were careful to make their bridges sturdy so he didn’t fall in the river! We also thought that The Gingerbread Man could use a boat to get across the river, so they set about making boats, ensuring they wouldn’t sink and giving them a sail that they could blow across the river (water tray), this will be continued next week.

In math’s this week Hatchmere have been exploring 2D shape and manipulating them to create some artwork. The children have also been learning all about the number 3! To support this we have told the story of Goldilocks and the 3 Bears and  the children have ensured that each bear has been able to have an equal amount on their picnic plate, as Goldilocks had rudely eaten their porridge and they were hungry.

We are very much looking forward to our Autumn walk on Monday (weather dependent), please ensure your child has a small drink and snack to take along with them. Wellies and waterproof coats are also a must.

Enjoy your weekend Hatchmerians!
