Hatchmere's Class Blog 7.6.24

We have had such a lovely first week back.

The children were excited to see other after a week’s break. Each child has shared something that they did over the half term and answered questions from their friends about it. The children stood confidently at the front of class and spoke their answers clearly and I could see how proud of themselves they were.

I am sure you have heard all about the poor frozen Chilly Peas that we found in our classroom. We had to free them as soon as possible so the children got to work with the tools at hand. Some children remembered when in Winter time we used salt to melt the ice quickly, others said that hot water can melt ice. The children decided to use them both together to free the peas. We have written clear instructions on how to do this should anyone else come across some frozen peas. The children were glad they were able to help….but will they regret it???

Our Mathematicians have mastered the Rekenreks! Hatchmere can now organise their own rekenreks so that they are ready to use during their learning. We used our ‘fast five’ counting to support the moving of the beads quickly without have to count each one along. The children surprised themselves at how quickly they were able to use their previously taught skills in new learning. Well done Hatchmere!

EMERGENCY!! The children have role-played calling 999 and asking for the emergency service that they need. All of the class got involved with different scenarios and were able to call for help and give the details needed to the operator. All of the class say that they feel confident that they can do this by themselves if the needs arises which is fantastic.

Sports Day was a huge success with the children! We really enjoyed the activities and showing off our sporting skills and excellent sportsmanship. It was wonderful to see all of the excitement and the smiles from them as they achieved at each station. Hatchmere you are superstars!
