Hatchmere's Class Blog 9.2.24

Date: 9th Feb 2024 @ 3:35pm

The weather has not dampened our spirits, we have had a fabulous week!

I am sure you have already heard all about The Bookstart Bear coming to visit our classroom on Wednesday morning. We had so much fun with an interactive story, some dancing and the Bookstart Bear joined us for a couple of nursery rhymes and hugs and high fives. How wonderful.

In Literacy this week the children have started their London Journey writing using their story maps to to support their sentences. We have had some amazing writing which will proudly be on display in our classroom.

Tuesday was our Jelly Bean day and the children had so much fun using the jelly beans to create patterns and explore numbers. There was even a little taste taster session. In our general maths lessons this week we have explored the stem sentences ‘more than’, ‘fewer than’ and ‘equals’. The children have been careful to use these terms in their mathematical discussions and activities.

During our learning in the outside classroom the children built a den! Although they were quick to correct Miss Dyson’s description – “Miss Dyson it is a fort, f-or-t. It has the ‘or’ sound in it”; ‘Or’ is of course the sound that we have as our phonics focus this week. Miss Dyson, very happily, stood corrected.

We will leave this week's blog with our super visit to the zoo. What a wonderful day. Even the weather was kinder than anticipated as we adventured our way around. Before our visit the children had decided on what animals that they would like to see which then informed our zoo journey. Every child in Hatchmere braved the Bat Cave, some were a little more nervous than others but they found the courage and confidence by holding hands with friends and keeping close to adults, how amazing!! The Hatchmere Team are so incredibly proud of the children’s behaviour, they listened carefully to their adults and kept themselves safe the whole way round! Thank you to our volunteer adults who joined us, we hope you treated yourself with a lovely cup of tea and maybe some biscuits when you got home. You deserved it! Once again, a big thank you to those families that chose to make extra donations to make this trip possible, your generosity is greatly appreciated.
