This week, our Year 4 and 5 children have continued to let their light shine through their hard work, creativity and determination across all areas of learning. 

English: 

In English, the children have been applying all of the skills they have developed throughout the unit to create their final Big Write. They have produced some fantastic setting descriptions, carefully choosing ambitious vocabulary and descriptive techniques to bring their settings to life. The children have also worked incredibly hard on crafting engaging openings that draw the reader in from the very beginning. It has been wonderful to see them showcase their growing confidence and independence as writers. 

Maths: 

In Maths, we have continued our learning about converting units, with a particular focus on converting between 12-hour and 24-hour time. The children quickly spotted patterns and relationships between the two systems and have become increasingly confident at converting times accurately. They have also demonstrated their understanding by applying these skills to a range of real-life problems and challenges. 

Art: 

In Art, we took time to reflect on our learning by evaluating our completed pieces. The children thought carefully about what had gone well, which techniques they were most proud of and what they would like to develop further in future projects. It was lovely to see them celebrating their successes whilst recognising how they can continue to grow and improve, allowing their individual talents to shine. 

Science: 

In Science, we explored the fascinating journey food takes through the digestive system. To help us understand this process, we carried out a hands-on investigation using a banana, water and old tights to represent different parts of the digestive system. We first mashed the banana to represent the chewing process in the mouth before moving it through the tights to model how food travels through the oesophagus and into the stomach. As the mixture was squeezed through, the children could see how nutrients are absorbed and how waste products move through the intestines before leaving the body. This memorable activity helped bring our learning to life and gave the children a much deeper understanding of how the digestive system works.  

Geography: 

In Geography, we have started our exciting geographical enquiry about the River Weaver. We investigated the human and physical features found around the river and worked together to sort them into the correct groups. We also made thoughtful predictions about why the river is used, helping us to let our light shine as curious geographers. 

RE: 

In RE, we explored different religious and non-religious worldviews that are taught in our school. We compared similarities and differences between these worldviews and discussed our ideas respectfully. It was wonderful to see the children letting their light shine by showing understanding, kindness and respect towards the beliefs of others. 

As the week comes to a close, we are incredibly proud of the resilience, enthusiasm and kindness shown by all of the children. Whether they have been writing creatively, solving mathematical problems, reflecting on their artwork or exploring scientific concepts, they have continued to let their light shine in everything they do.
