This week has been a good reminder of what it means to let your light shine, showing kindness, and being the very best we can be in all that we do. The children across Years 4 and 5 have shown determination and creativity in their learning.
Maths – Growing in Confidence with Decimals
We have been working incredibly hard to deepen our understanding of decimals. The children have shown real perseverance, tackling new concepts with courage and curiosity. It has been lovely to see them supporting one another, explaining their thinking, and celebrating those “lightbulb moments” together.
English – Coral Reef Leaflets
Our coral reef leaflets are now complete, and they are fantastic. The children have combined ambitious vocabulary, varied sentence techniques, and thoughtful layout choices to create informative, eye‑catching pieces of work. Their pride in their writing really shines through.
Science – Amphibian Life Cycle Comic Strips
In science, we explored the life cycle of amphibians and turned our learning into comic strips. These have been a real highlight of the week. Some are wonderfully funny, others dramatic, but all of them cleverly show each stage of the life cycle with accuracy and imagination. The frog transformations were especially popular!
Year 4 – Robinwood Adventures
Our Year 4 children returned from Robinwood glowing. They showed such bravery and maturity during their adventure residential taking part in activities such as climbing, problem‑solving, working as a team, and spending time away from home. They truly embodied our vision of being the best they can be.
Wednesday to Friday at OSJ
In Maths, the children have been learning about angles around a point, exploring how angles fit together to make a full turn. We have also been recapping written methods and word problems, with pupils showing growing confidence in tackling multi-step questions.
In English, we have been focusing on relative pronouns and relative clauses, learning how to add extra detail to sentences using words like who, which, and that. The children have done a brilliant job creating their own sentences, showing creativity and a clear understanding of how these features improve their writing.
During our enterprise project, the children worked well to design and create their own bookmark business, thinking carefully about style, audience, and pricing. They showed fantastic art skills, creativity, and enthusiasm as they developed and letting their light shine by presenting their ideas.
It has been a week full of learning, laughter, and shining moments. We are so proud of every child.
Quick Home‑Learning Reminders
A few regular routines make a big difference to your child’s learning.
📚 Reading
Please aim for four reading sessions each week. Short, relaxed reads are perfect.
✖️ Times Tables
Regular times‑table practice helps build confidence. A few minutes each day works well.
✏️ Spellings
Practicing the spellings and meanings at home really supports them in the classroom.
Have a lovely weekend,
