This week, our Year 4/5 pupils have certainly been living out our school vision to "Let Your Light Shine" through their hard work, curiosity and teamwork across the curriculum.
English
In English, we have been developing our descriptive writing skills. The children have explored how noun phrases can help to create vivid images in the reader's mind and have practised using fronted adverbials to make their writing more engaging and varied. It has been wonderful to see their confidence grow as they experiment with different ways to bring their settings to life.
Maths
In Maths, we have completed our work on rounding numbers to any degree of accuracy and have moved on to exploring negative numbers. The children enjoyed applying their understanding to a variety of real-life contexts. Next week, we will begin our new unit on addition and subtraction, where we will continue to build fluency and confidence with number.
Science
Our Science lessons have focused on evaporation. We have investigated how liquids change into gases and discussed examples of evaporation in everyday life. To help prepare for next week's learning, we would like the children to keep an eye out for examples of condensation over the weekend. Perhaps they might spot water droplets on a cold window, a mirror after a shower or the outside of a cold drink bottle.
RE
In RE, we have reflected thoughtfully on our own thoughts and opinions of Jesus after exploring a range of Gospel accounts. The children shared their ideas respectfully and demonstrated maturity as they considered different perspectives and messages from the stories they have studied.
PE
PE has been full of energy this week! In cricket, we have been developing our bowling skills and the children showed excellent determination and accuracy. In fact, Mrs Skelley had to get out of the way a few times! We have also begun learning tag rugby, where the children enjoyed working together as a team, communicating effectively and encouraging one another.
History
This week in History, we learned about Boudicca's revolt against the Romans and why she chose to fight against Roman rule. We discovered that Boudicca was the queen of the Iceni tribe and led a powerful rebellion after her people were treated unfairly. We compared her actions to Cartimandua, queen of the Brigantes, who chose to work with the Romans instead of fighting them. It was interesting to discuss how two leaders living at the same time made very different decisions and the impact these choices had on their people.
Reminders
- PE days are Wednesday and Thursday. Please ensure PE kits are in school.
- 📚 Please aim for four reading sessions each week. Short, relaxed reads are perfect.
- ✏️ Spelling test will be on Thursday 8th October. Practicing the spellings and meanings at home really supports them in the classroom.
Spelling words are: acquit, alter, benefit, credit, darken, equip, incur, gallop, happen, omit.
- ✖️ Times Tables - Regular times‑table practice helps build confidence. A few minutes each day works well.
This week, our excellent examples who have truly let their light shine through their positive attitude and hard work are Oliver, Thomas and Hollie.
As always, we are incredibly proud of the way the children continue to let their light shine through their learning, perseverance and teamwork. We hope you all have a wonderful weekend and look forward to another exciting week of learning ahead! ✨
Have a wonderful weekend!
Mrs Skelley and Miss Reid.
