Another fantastic week of learning has seen the children continuing to let their light shine across the curriculum through their curiosity, resilience and enthusiasm. 

In English, we continued developing our writing skills by focusing on fronted adverbials. The children worked hard to use these effectively to add detail and interest to their sentences. They successfully wrote a recount of Bessie Coleman's time whilst wing walking on a plane. It has been wonderful to see their confidence growing as they experiment with different ways to begin their writing. We have also continued enjoying our class novel and the children are always eager to find out what happens next in the story. Our online reading log is now active, so please record your child's reading regularly.  

In Maths, we have been building our understanding of larger numbers. The children practiced partitioning numbers, comparing and ordering them, and accurately placing them on a number line. They have shown great determination and are becoming increasingly confident when working with larger values. 

In Science, we explored the fascinating world of materials by observing how different substances change when heated. The children investigated a range of everyday materials including butter, cheese, ice lollies and chocolate buttons, carefully observing how long each took to melt. We discussed why some materials melt more quickly than others and introduced the idea of a melting point. The children enjoyed making predictions and thinking like real scientists as they carried out their observations. 

As part of our PSHE Happy Minds programme, we spent time reflecting on ways we can manage difficult situations and look after our emotional wellbeing. The children shared thoughtful ideas about strategies they can use when things feel challenging and discussed the importance of talking to others and showing kindness to themselves and those around them. These conversations really helped them to think about how they can continue to let their light shine, even during more difficult times. 

The children also thoroughly enjoyed their cricket coaching sessions this week. They worked hard to develop their batting and throwing skills, listened carefully to coaching advice and showed excellent teamwork throughout. It was lovely to see so many children growing in confidence and encouraging one another. 

In History, we have been learning about the invasions of Britain and the important roles played by Julius Caesar and Emperor Claudius. We explored why the Romans wanted to come to Britain and discovered the different challenges they faced. The children enjoyed comparing the two invasions and discussing how successful each one was. They have impressed us with their curiosity, thoughtful questions, and growing knowledge of life in Roman Britain. 

In Art, we have been developing our drawing skills by exploring a range of mark-making techniques using pen and charcoal. The children experimented with different lines, patterns, textures, and shading effects to create interesting pieces of artwork. They carefully observed potted plants and used their new skills to add detail and depth to their drawings. It has been wonderful to see their confidence grow as they explored different artistic styles and techniques.  

 

Reminders 

• PE days are Wednesday and Thursday. Please ensure PE kits are in school. 

• 📚 Please aim for four reading sessions each week. Short, relaxed reads are perfect.     

• ✏️ Spelling test will be on Thursday 24th September. Practicing the spellings and meanings at home really supports them in the classroom. 
• ✖️ Times Tables - Regular times‑table practice helps build confidence. A few minutes each day works well. 

This week, our excellent examples who have truly let their light shine through their positive attitude and hard work are Thomas, Billie and Archie. 

We are incredibly proud of how the children continue to approach their learning with enthusiasm and positivity. As we move through the term, we look forward to seeing them keep challenging themselves, supporting each other and, most importantly, continuing to let their light shine.
