Linmere's Class Blog - 23.10.26

Date: 23rd Oct 2026 @ 5:52pm

We have had another wonderful week of learning, with lots of opportunities for the children to let their light shine and show what they can achieve.

In English, the children completed their final Big Write diary entries, bringing together everything they have learnt throughout the unit. They worked hard to include effective vocabulary, punctuation and detail in their finished pieces. They have taken great pride in seeing their finished work displayed and have loved having the opportunity to celebrate everything they have achieved.

In Maths, we have been learning how to use the inverse operation to check our calculations. There was plenty of laughter when Mrs. Skelley made a few mistakes (on purpose, of course!) and the children were delighted to use their mathematical knowledge to spot them and explain how they knew she was wrong!

In RE, we brought together all of our learning from this unit to create our own El Salvador crosses. The children thought carefully about the people, values and things that are important to them and represented these through their designs. We also reflected on how we can ‘let our light shine’ through the choices we make and the way we treat others.

In History, we continued our learning about Roman Britain by exploring Hadrian’s Wall and why it was built. The children used their historical knowledge to imagine what it would have been like when the wall was constructed. They then became reporters and created their own news articles about Hadrian’s Wall.

In Art, the children completed their final project by creating their own sculpted potted plants. They used cardboard and craft wire to turn their designs into fantastic three-dimensional pieces. It has been wonderful to see their creativity and individuality shine through in their finished artwork.

Parents’ Evening

This week, we also welcomed you into school for Parents’ Evening. It was lovely to share the children’s achievements, celebrate the progress they have made and talk about all the ways they have been letting their light shine. Thank you to everyone who attended and for your continued support with your child’s learning.

Reminders

  • PE days are Wednesday and Thursday. Please ensure PE kits are in school.
  • 📚 Please aim for four reading sessions each week. Short, relaxed reads are perfect.
  • ✏️ Spelling test will be on Thursday 5th November. Practicing the spellings and meanings at home really supports them in the classroom.

Spelling words are: accept, except, affect, effect, berry, bury, scene, seen, weather, whether.

  • ✖️ Times Tables - Regular times‑table practice helps build confidence. A few minutes each day works well.

This week, our excellent examples who have truly let their light shine through their positive attitude and hard work are Eliza, Albie and Maxwell.

We have been so impressed by the children's enthusiasm, creativity and pride in their learning this week. Well done, Year 4/5!

We hope you all have a lovely and restful half term. We look forward to welcoming everyone back on Tuesday 3rd November, refreshed and ready for another exciting half term of learning!
