This week, our Year 4 and 5 children have continued to let their light shine through their hard work, thoughtful discussions and positive attitudes to learning. 

In English, we have been exploring recounts and thinking carefully about how the tone of our writing changes depending on the audience. The children have worked hard to apply many of the skills they have developed this term, including using ambitious vocabulary, accurate punctuation and clear organisation. We have also been focusing on our PROUD Policy, ensuring that all work is presented to a high standard and reflects the effort and care that we expect in every lesson. 

In Maths, we have moved on to learning about rounding. The children were challenged to reflect on an important question: Why do we round numbers? This led to some excellent discussions about how rounding can help us estimate, check answers and make large numbers easier to understand in everyday life. We were impressed by the thoughtful ideas shared across both year groups. 

Our Science learning has certainly been a tasty topic this week! We investigated the question: Do all chocolates have the same melting point? The children considered whether white, milk and dark chocolate would melt at the same temperature and discussed the reasons behind their predictions. We would love you to continue the conversation at home: Do you think white, milk and dark chocolate all have the same melting point? If not, which chocolate do you think would melt the quickest and why? 

In RE, we have continued our study of the Gospels, exploring the image they give of Jesus. The children have reflected on the qualities, actions and messages of Jesus found within these accounts and have engaged in some thoughtful discussions. Their research will help them create their own artwork, illustrating the impression they have developed of Jesus through their learning. 

In History, we have been exploring the different reasons why the Romans wanted to invade Britain. Using a range of historical sources, the children worked as young historians to investigate and gather evidence about the Romans' motives. They enjoyed discussing their ideas and comparing what different sources could tell us about the past. Through curiosity, teamwork and thoughtful questioning, the children have been letting their light shine before others as confident and reflective learners. 

In Art, we have been learning about gradients in nature and how colours can blend smoothly from one shade to another. Using oil pastels, the children carefully recreated the beautiful gradients found in leaves, experimenting with blending techniques to achieve different effects. We also took our learning outdoors, exploring nature and spotting a wide range of colours and gradients in the world around us. By observing closely, showing creativity and sharing their ideas with others, the children have been letting their light shine before others through their artistic talents. 

Reminders 

• PE days are Wednesday and Thursday. Please ensure PE kits are in school. 

• 📚 Please aim for four reading sessions each week. Short, relaxed reads are perfect.     

• ✏️ Spelling test will be on Thursday 8th October. Practicing the spellings and meanings at home really supports them in the classroom. 

Spelling words are: acquit, alter, benefit, credit, darken, equip, incur, gallop, happen, omit. 

• ✖️ Times Tables - Regular times‑table practice helps build confidence. A few minutes each day works well. 

This week, our excellent examples who have truly let their light shine through their positive attitude and hard work are Beatrice, Kalvin and Poppy. 

As always, we are incredibly proud of the enthusiasm, resilience and curiosity shown by the children this week. We look forward to seeing them continue to let their light shine before others through their learning, kindness and determination in the weeks ahead.
