🌟 Oakmere Class End of Week Blog – Let Your Light Shine 🌟
We have had a lovely (and very warm!) week in Oakmere Class. The children have worked incredibly hard and shown great resilience despite the hot weather. We are very proud of them all!
A quick reminder that Wheelie Day is taking place next week. Please remember to bring bikes or scooters and, most importantly, a helmet. With all the exciting events happening next week, we're looking forward to lots of fun together!
🌱 Science
Next week, we will be learning about living things and their habitats. We will explore why different animals are suited to different environments and how they adapt to survive there.
The children will also learn how habitats can change naturally through events such as floods, fires and earthquakes. We will discuss how humans can impact habitats too, both positively and negatively. For example:
✅ Positive human impact – creating nature reserves and protecting wildlife.
❌ Negative human impact – littering and pollution.
We will continue measuring our marigold plants to see how much they have grown. The children will be bringing their plants home next week. Marigolds are easy to grow and can be planted in most outdoor spaces. They will need a little extra watering at first to help them settle in.
✍️ English
This week, we have explored three different haikus. Next week, the children will use everything they have learned to create their own.
We will spend some time outdoors looking for something beautiful or inspiring. The children will begin with a simple sentence and then carefully adapt it into a haiku poem.
📚 Please remember to practise spelling words at home. Next week will be our final spelling test of the year!
➕ Maths
In Maths, we are moving on to Geometry.
The children will learn to:
- Identify right angles.
- Understand that two right angles make a half turn.
- Recognise that three right angles make three-quarters of a turn.
- Know that four right angles make a complete turn.
- Identify whether angles are greater than or less than a right angle.
We will also continue practising our times tables daily. Our Leader of the Day chooses their favourite times table for the class to practise, and it has been wonderful to see the children's confidence and fluency continue to grow.
🏃 PE
This week, we will be enjoying our athletics session with the coach.
To celebrate a fantastic year of learning, hard work and friendship, we will also be having a Paddling Pool Party! We are all looking forward to a fun-filled celebration together.
✝️ RE
In RE, we are continuing our learning about the Bahá’í Faith.
This week, we will explore why unity is such an important belief within the Bahá’í Faith. The children will learn that Bahá’ís believe all people are equal, created by God, and that no distinctions should be made between individuals.
🎨 Art
We are continuing to work on our exciting animated film projects.
The children will use their paper puppets and storyboards to create their own animations, bringing their ideas and characters to life.
💭 PSHE
In PSHE, we will be learning about fire safety, including:
- Who helps to keep us safe?
- When it is appropriate to call 999.
- Why hoax calls can be dangerous.
- How to act safely and responsibly in an emergency.
🎉 Congratulations!
A huge well done to Billie Smith, our raffle ticket winner this week! 🎟️👏
Thank you, as always, for your continued support throughout the year. It has been a term filled with resilience, creativity, teamwork and kindness. Oakmere Class have truly let their light shine in so many wonderful ways.
Have a fantastic weekend!
