🌟 Oakmere Class Blog – Let Your Light Shine 🌟
Despite the rainy weather, we have had a lovely week in Oakmere. The children have worked incredibly hard and produced some fantastic work—especially in Maths, where they are beginning to shine as they explore fractions on a number line. A big thank you to our wonderful PTA who sorted out the Jonka bars for us. The children have taken the bars home tonight-they were so excited. If your child has won a prize please send them in with the golden ticket on Monday so we can sort out their reward.
🌱 Science
This week in science, we will continue to care for our seeds and observe how they are growing. As we watch them develop, we are learning how plants quietly do amazing things—just like us when we try our best.
We will be finding out why roots and stems are so important for transporting water. Plants absorb water through their roots, and it travels up the stem to the leaves and flowers. The children will also carry out a simple experiment to see how quickly plants take in water.
✍️ English
In English, we will finish writing our opening paragraph describing a hunting scene, focusing on powerful verbs and interesting adverbs to bring our writing to life.
We will continue reading Stone Age Boy, exploring the moment when the children enter the cave and discover the bear. The children will role play the scene before writing their own speech, helping their ideas and creativity shine through.
Don’t forget—our spelling test will take place next Tuesday.
A big well done to Eliza and Oliver for earning their reading certificates—keep shining through your reading!
➕ Maths
In Maths, we are moving on to our final times table—the 12x table! Please continue practising all tables at home to build fluency and confidence. It’s wonderful to see how perseverance helps everyone shine a little brighter each day.
We will also continue our work on fractions and decimals, focusing on finding fractions of amounts by using inverse operations. The children will apply this knowledge to problem-solving and practical challenges.
Well done to Thomas, Kalvin and Poppy May for their fantastic effort on TTRS this week!
🏃 PE
Next week in PE, the children will take part in football with the sports coach and enjoy rounders with Mrs Kelly. We will continue developing skills and begin playing games—our first matches are always a little chaotic, but full of fun and teamwork!
🏛️ History
In History, we will learn about Queen Victoria, who reigned from 1837 to 1901. We will explore her life, her achievements, and her role during the Industrial Revolution. The children will discover how her leadership helped shape the country.
✝️ RE
In RE, we will explore Christian artwork to understand the meaning of the Resurrection. This important belief shows how Jesus defeated death and brings hope to Christians.
We will study a piece of artwork called Easter Morning and the Light of the Resurrection by Jen Norton, reflecting on how light is often used as a symbol of hope and new life. Our focus quote is:
“I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die.” (John 11:25)
🎨 Art
In Art, we are developing our moving pictures. The children will be developing their puppets and exploring the stories behind our pictures.
💭 PSHE
In PSHE, we will be learning about fire safety—who keeps us safe and when we should call 999. We will also discuss hoax calls and why it is important to use emergency services responsibly.
We will complete our final My Happy Mind session—do ask your child about how our brains work!
🎉 Congratulations!
A big well done to Olivia, our raffle ticket winner, and to Billie for receiving a certificate for her lovely manners—your kindness really shines.
Thank you, as always, for your continued support.
